Posting no. 45

Will be starting my holiday this coming Sat and no blogging till next year. But i can't end with 44 posts for the year right? So, here i'm writing the 45th post. haha..just to get rid of no. 44, which is not a good number in the Chinese tradition. :P

Guess where I'm spending my holiday? hehe.. I'm going to Auckland! yeah!! Super excited about the trip. But too anxious thinking of what to pack, and if i've left out anything! Relax, girl... after all, i'm visiting my cousins there. They will probably have the things I need. >___<

Two more days of work and off I fly to NZ! Will update more about the trip when I'm back. Till then, see ya! Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!

The end of my choir practice

Finally..the performance has ended yesterday. It was an awesome night but tiring, altogether. For both Sat and Sun nights, we had to be at the venue at 6pm and everything ended about 11pm. I was still feeling feverish, but thank God, i was able to forget about my tiredness while waiting for our performance as I was enjoying all the other programs..while chatting with my choir mates.

I didn't take a photo of myself from top to toe. Didn't bring camera as there's no place for me to keep my things when i was on stage. So..i 'steal' a photo from my friend..

The big choir..we didn't arrange our position according to heights. So, we looked a bit untidy on stage. But never the less, our voices are great! :D

Here are some of my alto mates.

Photo from CT Ang Photography

I hope there will be more chance to sing with these girls.. Some of them are from other churches. So chances of meeting are slim. But ipoh is small..so, who knows when and where we might meet! :D

I'm sick..

Ever fall sick after a stressful night?

I was wondering why am I feeling cold on a sunny day and why am I so tired. I know I went to bed late yesterday night, and i thought that was it... but then, i felt heaty and feeling really, really uncomfortable. By 3pm at work, i was almost lying on my desk. I kept myself awake, and walked around the office, disturbing my colleagues. By the time i got home, I got runny nose.

Oh dear..i got myself problem. FLU! My choir performance is on this Sunday and tomorrow is the full-dressed rehearsal, and now I got FLU and fever and sore throat! That's so bad! How am I going to sing! And I practised since August for this big performance! I'm so looking forward to it. Now, i'm worried...

Oh yeah, why was i talking about falling sick after a stressful night. I was thinking and planning about my NZ trip the last 2 weeks of this year. Not really planning the trip, but thinking about which suitcase to use, what to wear...which jacket to bring..i'm just over anxious. Gosh..how long have I not been travelling to colder countries? But it's summer there..why am I getting worried about whether I will be too cold at night, and not enough to wear?

My sis gave me this verse..
Matt 6:25-26 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?"

I really should just start packing, and stop worrying.. :D God will heal me for Sunday's performance. Amen!

Wrist pain

I feel the painful sting at my wrist again.. I said again is because i had it since April 2011. It was very painful that time but went away on and off though the vein is still slightly swollen. But i can do things normally, write, use the computer, etc without the sting. It was only painful when i used too much strength to play badminton or play the piano. Now it came back all of a sudden even though i didn't do all that...

It's not really the wrist part, but rather more to my thumb and index finger. I sprained them when i was holding a 2L separating funnel with both of that fingers. Silly me..i know.. I was actually forcing myself to hold it while i was weighing something.

I went to see a few doctors for treatment. The first one gave me diclofenac but it was too strong for me and I got gastric after 2 days. Another gave me Piroxicam (Feldene) but the doctor only prescribed enough medicine for a week as there's side effect for taking too much. All the medicine never really work for me. I went to see a specialist in Pantai Hospital and he told me it's just muscle pain and that I should soak my hand in hot water for 20mins everyday. I didn't really follow and eventually the pain left but the vein is still like that.

Mom suggested me to massage my hands. No good either. I even went for acupuncture treatment. It was extremely painful when the needle was poked into my palm! Gosh...my hand was numb the whole day, i can't even move my fingers after that and for the subsequent week, i have to bandage my hands to avoid from using my hand too much.

I hope the pain will go away soon, before my long holiday. Otherwise, i won't enjoy my holiday 100%. I'm really worried now and hope it will heal on its own.

Hair colour

I've planned to colour my hair today since weeks ago as today is a public holiday. At first, I decided to go back to Image de Coiffure in Ipoh Garden South. I did my hair color there previously. But it costed me a bomb..RM230 if i remember correctly. They said they used the latest hair colouring technology from Loreal and it's better for my hair as it's ammonia free. I really wonder how the chemical works without some sort of bleaching effect. Anyway, i called them to ask for the current price and i was told that for hair colour, they charge from RM190 onwards, depending on your hair length and thickness. The price is not inclusive of haircut though. I sounded a bit hesitant, and the man who answered my call quickly told me that a 50% discount will be given for charges of RM180 & above. Although the price seems attractive, i was not very satisfied with the way the man talked to me on the phone. He sounded a bit arrogant and unfriendly to me..

Well..after that, i called Philippe Sum and checked their price. It was quite affordable, at RM139 which include haircut as well. So i went and did my hair there. I coloured my hair dark brown with a bit of red. Look nice now but i hope it will last me for another 6 mths or so. Fingers crossed..

Oops...photo a bit blur and my hair colour is not showing..hmm..maybe under the sun will be better.

Belimbing buluh - also known as bilimbi

Have you try this sour fruit before? It's a local fruit, well-known among the Malays as they called it "belimbing buluh".

We have a belimbing buluh tree in our garden that grows healthily. Look at the clusters of fruits! haha..

We can't really eat that much, can we? It's so sour that those who have gastric may not be able to take it. I gave some to my colleagues. They love it! :D The Malays like to cook it with fish or curry. But I like the way my mom make it with prawn or meat and a bit of sweetness. Emmm...yummy! Every time my mom cooks this dish, it finish off too fast! :p

It contains a lot of ascorbic acid (vitamin C) which contributes to the sourness and it has phosphorus and calcium too. Very nutritious, right? So, would you like to try some? ;) Highly recommended for those who like sour food. ^v^

Contact lenses

I've been wanting to wear contact lenses again for quite awhile but was worried that my eyes are too dry for them. I used to wear monthly disposable contact lenses (B&L Softlens 38) but after working in a lab for some years, my eyes could not bear the dryness developed from wearing contact lenses for long hours. But wearing spectacles was uncomfortable and inconvenient too. Somehow, I couldn't find an optical shop who can adjust my glasses to my comfort. My glasses were pressing into the bridge of my nose and leaving almost permanent red marks everyday. Now, a pimple has developed on both sides of the nose bridge.

So I decided to give it a try again. I mean to wear contact lenses to work again. Was planning to get a pair of bi-weekly contact lenses for trial at my regular optical shop. But ended up visiting my uncle's optometrist instead. Well, mom and I were sending some muffins to him on the way to get my contact lenses, and he suggested why not try to get them from his optometrist (SL Chan Optometrist at Persiaran Greenhill, Ipoh). His whole family get theirs there. Ok..so i gave it a try.
Service was good. My eyes were tested with all sorts of high-tech equipments. My regular optician only have 2 types of equipments. Impressive! But.. they are overpricing the products! I usually get two boxes of 1-day Acuvue Moist for RM140 and 1-day Acuvue TrueEye for RM180. And the girl told me they are selling the "TrueEye" at RM260!!! My goodness! But what to do.. after consultation, the optometrist suggested me to get Acuvue OASYS. She said there's a promotion now, buy 3 get 1 free. So, 4 boxes are RM330. And she was so nice by saying that since my uncle recommended me here, she will give me a discount of RM30. Feeling a bit reluctant, I bought the 4 boxes of contact lenses including 2 bottles of multi-purpose solution which she recommended me to use since i have dry eyes.

Feeling that my regular optician may charge a lower price, i called to check. And they are selling 4 boxes for RM240!!! That's like RM90 cheaper than this shop if she charged me the original price without the RM30 discount. Wow... what big difference. Though better service.. i think I will get my contact lenses from my regular shop in the future.. which is Starlite Optical in Yik Foong Shopping Complex.

My choir attire - All white

My choir requires us to wear a white long skirt with white blouse and white shoes for the Christmas performance. I had a headache looking for white long skirt in Ipoh. I searched everywhere and most of the places only sell short white skirt. I was thinking, if i couldn't get a long skirt, i'll get a long white dress. But the requirements are strict. No sleeveless and skirt must be below knee level. Even shoes are restricted to covered shoes if you are planning to buy a pair. Difficult task for us...

Finally i found a long white skirt in a boutique at Ipoh Parade, called K2. It's like a Bohemian long skirt. Cost me RM49.90. Man..i hope i'll wear it more often other than the performance cuz i don't usually wear long skirt. Otherwise, it will be a waste of money. Anyway, I came home and tried it with some of my white blouses. None of them seem to match the skirt and i even looked shorter with the long skirt.. sigh..

In the evening, i went to check out Rozette boutique in Ipoh Garden south. I like to shop at this boutique as the clothes selling here suit me well. The owner recommended a blouse with lace which compliment well with my skirt though we both think that white with white is not very pretty. It's just TOO WHITE. Anyway, dress code has to be followed.. so I bought the blouse nevertheless. Purple belt and shawl will be provided. So i guess the attire will do alright? I hope... but what kind of white shoes should I wear?

Another headache..and more money to be spent....

Lemang with rendang

Hari Raya Haji is around the corner and lemang stalls are seen mushrooming along Jalan Ipoh/Chemor. You can only find lemang stalls near Malay kampung. Mom and I were scouting for lemang this morning for our guests who are visiting in the afternoon. We tried getting it at the stadium where the Malay community has their morning market. But we were a bit too late as the stall already closed. We were late because we went to Parkson for a brief shopping session. :p

Well..if you do not know what is lemang and have not try one, you should. :) A brief explanation of Lemang according to Wikipedia :Lemang is a traditional Malay food made of glutinous rice and coconut milk. It is cooked in a hollowed bamboo stick lined with banana leaves. This way, the rice won't stick to the bamboo. It is best eaten with chicken rendang.

Before and after the lemang is cooked.

Both photos from other blogs.

We found the lemang stalls along Jalan Ipoh/Chemor and we bought 2. Guess how much they charged us? RM12.00 per stick! Gosh...i think they overcharged us because we are Chinese? Anyway, we asked the lady if she knows anywhere we could get chicken rendang and hola! she's actually selling some. So, we happily bought 3 packets for RM9.00 and we paid RM30.00 for everything. :)

Here are the lemang after cutting into small pieces.

And the delicious chicken rendang to go with it. Slurrppp..

Stroopwafel

A colleague brought back Stroopwafels for us!! All the way from Amsterdam! :D Ever since I tried it in Amsterdam during my uni days, I missed the waffle so much! The aroma is so appetizing..emm....

The way to eat this right is to melt the caramel first..place it on top of a cup of hot tea, wait till the caramel melt, and savour it slowly... It may be a little bit too sweet to some but if you eat it together with tea, it's super yummy! :D

Look at the melted caramel... ! slurrrpp...

Jogging on early Sat morning - My First Experience

It's my first time today. lol. Been dragging it for ages cuz you know the reason.. ahem... i'm too lazy to get up on a Sat morning!! And missed my precious sleep! :p Nonetheless, i set my alarm to 7:15am as I made a date with mom to go jogging with her at the pologround at 7:30am. Mom actually woke me up at 6:30am when she woke up. I heard her going into the washroom..afterwards, i fell back to sleep. But this 45min sleep was so tiring. I was just dreaming of driving to the pologround. It was a frustrating dream cuz i took the wrong road, drove through some unknown places trying to find the way to pologround! Was i nervous for my first time ? haha.. i'm not sure..

At 7:30am, the place was already jammed up. So many people were already jogging and working out. The parking was totally full! I was lucky to get a parking but was taken by someone in the beginning. He said he didn't see my signal light. But everybody else did and just drove pass me. He was just making excuse! Anyway, thank God he's kind enough to move out from the parking and let me have it since i saw it first.

As it's my first time, i didn't jog. I just walk in a faster motion than normal walking. :p No sweating but both of my legs felt so itchy. I thought it must be because I didn't do stretching or warm-up before and i don't usually go for exercise after i wake up, that my blood circulation was slightly abnormal. Causing my legs to feel itchy. So i just ignored the itchy feeling and kept walking with mom. We walked one big round around the polo-ground. Then, another smaller round. After that, we joined the aerobic group and followed their steps. That was when i sweat slightly..;p Oh, and we met someone we know. She was just doing aerobics beside us but we didn't notice her. Oops... Btw, aerobics start at 7:30am and ends at 8:30am, taught by a group of Malay ladies.

When we stepped into our car on our way home, only then i realized i have a lot of insect bites!!! Now i know why i felt itchy earlier. It didn't look like mosquitoes bite cuz the bites were bigger, and in abnormal shape. Luckily, after taking shower and putting on "Burnol", an antiseptic cream, the bites start to 'fade off'. I guess i can just forget about it..cuz it doesn't feel itchy anymore.

Will I continue doing this every Sat? Hmm...let's see if I can commit.. ;D

Kopi Luwak

Have you tasted the Kopi Luwak before? =) Apparently, it is the most expensive coffee in the whole wide world!!! Adapted from Wikipedia, it says that Kopi Luwak or Civet coffee, is made from the beans of coffee berries which have been eaten by the Asian Palm Civet, then passed through its digestive tract. Passing through the civet's stomach and intestines, the beans are then defecated. Eeeeewwww.....! And i was drinking a cup! Look at my cup of Kopi Luwak!

Well...i'm a coffee lover, but not an expert in drinking coffee. So, i don't know what's the difference between the normal coffee and this expensive coffee. Wikipedia says that after gathering, washing, drying, roasting and brewing, the beans yield an aromatic coffee with much less bitterness (erm...i guess i don't know how to appreciate this precious coffee, haha) and widely know as the most expensive coffee in the world with prices reaching $160 per pound.. wowo...

Actually, my aunt got it as a gift when she was visiting Indonesia. I was 'lucky' to have a cup from her. :p Below is the nice packing the coffee was packed in.

This is how the cat looks like. Look at their feces !! I got the feeling i was drinking their feces, that's why it couldn't go through my throat smoothly.. lol

Experience in Buying a HOuse

This entry does not tell you about how to buy a house or what to look for when buying a house. Because I'm not an expert in that. I just choose a house which is affordable, big enough for me and my small family, not too big to take care of and the area which I like. What I wanted to write here is my experience in getting all the documents and loan ready.

While I was deciding which bank to apply for the house loan, a friend who worked at a local bank came to my mind. Well, i thought i should do it with someone I know. He/she could be of help when i need to in the near future or at least, i'm helping her/him to fulfill a part of the sales target though my loan amount is not big. But then, I find that my friend is not very experienced in this field and does not provide the proper advice that a banker should give. Furthermore, he kind of push me into signing up the so-called free credit cards which I don't really need. Now, i have to make sure i use the card to some extent in order to waive off the government tax.

First thing... i asked this friend (i'll refer this friend as my bank agent later on) for advice whether it is better to engage the same lawyer for my loan agreement as the Sales & Purchase agreement lawyer. Which i think would ease the documentation work and also, save my time as I don't have to go to two places to sign agreements. Well, my bank agent told me it's the same whether I engage the same lawyer or use two different lawyers as the system now is very efficient. So, I followed the advice. BUt in the end..it's very troublesome for me as I need to make 2 appointments for signing the agreements, wait for a long time for the signed agreements to be ready as both the lawyers need documents from each other to proceed with their tasks.

Secondly.. my bank agent didn't even tell me that I can use the bank "letter of offer" to apply for EPF withdrawal! I was waiting and waiting for the loan agreement to be ready while in the meantime, i was actually almost late for my downpayment! I thought I'm supposed to withdraw the EPF money first, then only I pay the remaining downpayment. I received a letter from the property agent one day that I need to pay up a certain amount before due date otherwise, they will impose 10% interest on me! Wow... But my property agent was also at fault. He confused me by telling me that I need to bring the loan agreement to KWSP for the application.

Anyway, I settled the EPF withdrawal application and paid up the amount required the next day. For those who are thinking of purchasing a house and need to apply for EPF withdrawal, these are the documents required :-
  • S&P agreement (original and duplicate)
  • IC (original and duplicate)
  • Bank letter of offer (original and duplicate)
  • Bank book (original and duplicate)
  • EPF withdrawal application form

Beacon Point - Family Restaurant

After the pre-birthday outing the previous week, we had a birthday dinner again just last Friday at Beacon Point. I ordered a baked pasta which i thought would be easier for me to chew. Cuz just a few days ago, one of the metal piece of my braces detached from a tooth and it's still dangling on the metal wire. It's a bit uncomfortable but i would not want to damage it further. So, a soft type of food would be my best choice. The taste is ok. A bit too much and filling. But thank God, i still have space for the cake! haha.. YT doesn't like chocolate cake and it happened that the cake of the day is chocolate moist cake! hehe.. and i got to eat the cake for her! Thank you!

My dinner..
The chocolate moist cake... look too delicious huh?
SF'd dinner..fish gratin which cost RM29.90 for set dinner.

Lamb chop @RM26.90 for set dinner.

Banana leaf chicken @23.90

Full pocket chicken @26.90 set dinner

Chicken peri-peri @23.90 set dinner
Set dinner comes with soup of the day

Not enough choc moist cake and they offered us walnut brownie

An outing at Secret Recipe

Called my good mate out for a pre-birthday dinner. Yeah.. she used to sit behind my workstation, listened to my complaints and was always patiently listening to my nagging. Haha.. Now, the desk behind me is empty, still waiting for someone to replace her. But i guess nobody can replace her lar.. Well.. i hope she enjoyed her new career and still keep in touch with us. Anyway, this is not a post about her. Haha.. thought it's a pre-birthday dinner. :P

Well, we wanted to have dinner together and celebrate her birthday earlier. And also, i wanted to try out the newly opened cafe called "My Dream", opposite Syuen Hotel. But we were so disappointed at their service. Most of the items in the menu was not selling yet! I so wanted to try out their mango layered cake. But they only serve the durian flavour. Why are they opening the restaurant when they only serve a few items of the menu? It was so, so disappointing. We were hoping to have a proper dinner and try their dessert later on. Sigh.. So..off we went to the opposite restaurant, which is Secret Recipe. I had a meatball spaghetti. JL had Lasagne and SF had something else, which i forgot the name of the dish. The chicken looked like it was kept in the freezer for too long cuz the meat was a bit dark and not fresh.

So many pieces of meatballs!! I can't finish all of them, so i shared 1 piece with SF. Haha..she was happy to have it. :p Right, SF?

Anyway, we had a great night out, had a really good chat... and had a very delicious banana cheese cake. =)

Heartstrings has made me hooked to CN Blue

I just finished watching "Heartstrings" or "You've Fallen for Me" recently. A korean drama full of lovely and funny scenes. It was fun to watch. It was a pity the drama ended in 15 episodes. I really craved for more. Lee Shin (Jung Yong Hwa) and Gyu-Won (Park Shin Hye) really make a great couple together. The atmosphere at the university, the songs played by the school rock band (Stupid), the cheerful character of Gyu Won and the cool Lee Shin, and all the great friends portrayed in the drama were really awesome!  I missed the drama already!

Love this photo below a lot. Look so..emm...yummy... ;)

They even have their characters' phone strap! :D Cute ya! Oh, btw, Gyu-Won played the zitter, a traditional instrument.

After watching the drama, i've looked through YouTube for english subbed NG scenes. But found only a few. Later, while searching for Heartstrings OST, i stumbled upon Jung Yong Hwa's profile, the guy who played Lee Shin's character. He's the lead vocalist and leader of indie band, CN Blue. He played Shin Woo in You're Beautiful. I wasn't interested in his character that time. Haha..i guess i was too focus on Jang Geun Seuk who played the lead male in You're Beautiful. Now, i recall back, i think Yong Hwa is really cute! =D Though at the age of 22, he has a powerful voice. He leads his band fantastically. And he played the guitar really good. Watched some of their Sound Plex  performances at youtube.. i seem to be hooked now! Was playing their songs on my old Sony Ericsson W800i phone almost everyday to work. Haha.. (well, cuz i don't have a MP3 player for my car). And my battery went dead too often!!! :p

I especially like the song named "You Have Fallen For Me" and "Because I miss You" sung by Jung Yong Hwa in Heartstrings. "Because I miss You" has become my ringtone. hehehe.. Would really love to see them in Malaysia! haha!

Check out this song from CN Blue "First Step" album. :D

Inspiring Korean singers

Went to a K-Pop concert with a few friends yesterday held at PGS hall. It was held in aid of IPOHBUG, an organization to encourage sports and healthy lifestyle in youths. After the president of IPOGBUG gave his speech, one of my friends said that what IPOHBUG is doing is really a good cause. When she was a youth, she said there's nothing much for her to get involve with (except at school). Yeah.. i agree with her that this is a good opportunity to bring youths together and know more friends.

What I really enjoyed about yesterday was the voice of the singers. They are really good! I wonder why they are not famous... They sung a number of korean drama songs and a few english songs. Though i don't understand what they were singing in Korean, the feelings and emotions they put in the music really grabbed your attention. And you can't stop admiring how great their voices are.

They started with "NOBODY" and the song really boost up the mood. When Brian Kim came out..all the girls went in front of the stage and started yelling. It was really an electrifying night. ;) The singers comprised of Brian Kim (american-korean singer & songwriter), Cho Hye-Ri (I like the way she sung "Little Mermaid"), Lee Yun Hwa (he got great potential, quite good-looking too), Noh A-Ram (funny guy he is..told us to check out his webpage at "www.iamcoffeeboy.com" and quite a handsome guy, :D) and Nae-Ri (she has a beautiful voice indeed!)

Lee Yun Hwa did a 'remix' of Girls Generation "Gee" & Mister. That was really awesome! :D They ended the night with "You Raise Me Up". Nice...

Here are some photos and short video to share :-

A big decision

Just 2 weeks ago, I made a very, very important decision in my life. I purchased my first ever property!!!! YES! I'm not joking! It was a fast decision, and once the decision is made, i've felt a sense of independent in myself. Like i've overcome something and walk out of the box i'm always trying to hide myself in.

At first, it was my bro-in-law who wanted to buy a house for his kids future investment. But he suggested mom & I to stay at the house and help pay some money. The money could have been my own house instalment. So mom & I decided to buy our own house. Though the place is not any near to where I'm staying now, it's still a nice area. Away from industrial area and the hustle bustle of the city. But it will become a city of its own in the future. Jusco will be up next year and Tesco is already nearby.

Well..i'm quite satisfied with the house. Although it's a bit small at 18x60, most ppl will buy a larger house at 20x70 or 22x75. But i can only afford that much. I don't want to burden myself with the house. I still want to enjoy life while committing to paying up the loan. I hope God will prepare someone to accompany me for the rest of my life. Mom won't be with me that long and i'll be alone. I feel the anxiety whenever i think of that moment, when mom won't be around. It's so sad... but on the other hand, i'm excited about how to decorate the house. My very own house. :)

Here are some photos of the show house :-

4. Go back to church - Yup. Been attending CGBC.

And...

I went to Shanghai!! :DDD Though it was not planned for a personal vacation, it was still nice to visit Shanghai for just a short trip.
